INTERMODALITY AND CYCLING MOBILITY IN APULIA

INTERMODAL PUBLIC LOCAL MOBILITY BOARD ON 21ST FEBRUARY

"Intermodality and Cycling mobility in Apulia: accessibility, tourism, economy” is the subject of the public meeting that will be held in Bari on Friday 21st at Fiera del Levante - Apulia Region Conference Room - pavilion no. 152, starting at 9:00.
The event is organised by Infrastructures and Mobility Department of Apulia Region within “INTERMODAL” Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Project, of which Apulia Region is project partner, funded by the IPA ADRIATIC CBC 2007-2013 Programme. It takes place in the “BIP- Bici in Puglia EXPO 2015”, the first specialized bicycles exhibition fair at Fiera del Levante, from 20th to 22nd February, prepared by Snim Srl.

The initiative, technically a “Public Local Mobility Board of INTERMODAL project” aims to take the stock about cycle tourism situation in Apulia, in accordance with the Regional Law on cycle mobility n. 1/2013, both as sustainable accessibility way of our territory and as valorisation and economical development way for marginal areas. Discussions will be focused, inter alia, on “Ciclovia dell’Acquedotto- Aqueduct Bike Lane”, Cycling itineraries in “Valle d’Itria”, “Lesina and Varano Two lakes Bike Lane project” and intermodal transportation bicycle + train.

The conference will be close by the speech of Mr. Giovanni Gianni, Assessor of the Apulia Region Infrastructures and Mobility sector.

INTERMODAL project (Intermodality Model for the Development of the Adriatic Littoral Zone) regards the identification of solutions and strategies relating intermodal transportation focused on the Adriatic coastal area, in order to reduce traffic congestion especially during summer season period increase, it also achieve to offer efficient alternatives that should be used in other contexts, in favour of urban intermodal touristic mobility, with a transborder value.

Among other initiatives funded by INTERMODAL project, there is the experimental management of the first covered and guarded cycle-park in the whole Ionian-Adriatic macro region of the middle South of Italy named “Velostation”, that will be operative in Bari, Corso Italia (at FAL Railway Company places), just before summer 2015.
